Resist: A Mini-Game About Labour & Power
We built a game where the only way to win is to organize.
Category: Research-creation
Traditional journalism covers labour issues. People read, nod, and
move on. Resist was built on a different premise — that if you experience a story, you
remember it differently.
The game puts you on the floor of a warehouse at a fictional company called Emazon.
Your job is to meet targets. The harder question is whether you will also organize your
colleagues.
Resist is a narrative mini-game prototype developed as a research-creation thesis
exploring interactive and immersive media as a tool for impactful communication and
audience engagement. Of nine testers, seven said they were motivated to learn more
about workers unionizing after playing. Two said maybe. None said no.
Resist is planned as a trilogy. Episode one covers shop floor struggles and is nearly
ready for public release. Episode two will explore street-level movements. Episode three
will address legislative change.
What we did
Red House is built on the belief that feeling is everything. Resist is the most direct
expression of that belief — a project where the medium is the message, and the
message is that people have power when they act together.
